Save The Aberdares
The Aberdares
We are dedicated to protecting and conserving the Aberdares Ecosystem. Our current focus is on preventing the imminent threat posed by the proposed Ihithe – Ndunyu Njeru road section, which jeopardizes over 255 acres of vital montane forests, bamboo, and moorlands.
Our Mission
To safeguard Kenya's rich biodiversity in the Aberdares through heightened awareness, mobilization of support, and vigorous advocacy efforts.
Impact of Proposed Road Section Through the Aberdares
The proposed Ihithe – Ndunyu Njeru road construction through the Aberdares ecosystem raises serious concerns about its ecological and environmental impacts, including;
Bamboo
75ha of bamboo, will be affected. The monetary value of ecosystem services linked to bamboo carbon stocks is 1503 ± 624 USD / ha
Montane Forest
35 acres of montane forest will be destroyed. The total ecosystem services linked to montane forests is approximately 5,718  USD / ha
Moorland
14ha of moorland will be affected by the road section passing through the Aberdares. The total ecosystem services value of moorlands is 3,591.42 USD / ha
